About AWBB

We are a very active support team since the Band is involved in so many educational and enrichment events throughout the year. Below is a list of AWBB activities and some of the volunteer opportunities:

  • Uniform Fitting (August)- Assist with checking uniform sizes.

  • Uniform Repair (All Year) – Assist with mending uniforms (sewing buttons, stitching ripped seams, etc).

  • Chaperone – Football Games (August – October)- Chaperone at both home and away games. Arrive early, ride with band on bus for away games, sit with band.

  • Senior Banners (September – October) – Participate in production of Senior Banners. Tasks include buying fabric, hosting cutting events, cutting fabric, hosting events to build banners

  • Friends and Patrons (August – May) – Communicate with local businesses and families as a donation fundraiser. Write letters requesting donations, thank you notes, and maintain list of friends and patrons for inclusion in various programs.

  • Showcase of Bands (September) – Many opportunities: concessions, band greeter, band meal, planning, decorations.

  • Candlelight (October) – After the last football game the Seniors pass on their marching band leadership to the Juniors. Coordinate planning for food, supplies, setup, and staff the event.

  • Fall Sale (October – December) – Sales occur during October. Assist during turn in event in November by collecting forms and money from students. Assist during distribution in December when students pick up items to distribute.

  • Band Banquet (March through May) – End of season awards and dinner for high school students and parents. Many opportunities for this event – planning, decorations, centerpieces, glassware, cakes, drinks, menu.

  • Scholarships (Spring) – AWBB awards scholarships to students. Set up scholarship events – announcement, review submissions, judge submissions, award scholarships.

  • Chicken BBQ (May) – Many opportunities to help: Serve food, setup, cleanup, coordinate desserts.

  • Restaurant Fundraisers (All Year). Coordinate with local restaurants for AWBB nights where families can dine and a percentage of proceeds return to AWBB. Communicate events with AW community at large.

  • Booster Wear (All Year) Sell AWBB logo items. Coordinate inventory and manage volunteers to sell at football games, Chicken BBQ, and as required through the year.

  • CD / DVD (Spring) – Help videotape band performances, create DVD.

  • General’s Express (All Year). Drive the truck and trailer at various events – games, parades, trip. Chair ensures truck and trailer are maintained. Must be able to handle a 36’ trailer and get clearance from Anthony Wayne Board.

  • Golf Ecology (July or August) – Assist with trash and garbage pickup during the week-long LPGA event. Many shifts are available. Includes free pass for the week, free parking, Volunteer appreciation dinner, and T-shirt and hat.

  • Community Rewards (All year) – Coordinate Kroger, Amazon, etc. shopper rewards activities.

  • Nominating Committee (All Year) – Find volunteers to run for executive office. Present slate of candidates to AWBB for voting.

  • AWBB Officer (All Year) – We have four officers on the Board. President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary. Treasurer is a two-year role. Vice-President becomes President the following year so elections are for Secretary (annually), Vice-President (annually), and Treasurer (alternating years).
